Ocean Drive Marathon
New Jersey Shore, NJ
Went down to The Jersey Shore the night before with Johnny. First went to the expo in Wildwood to pick up my SWAG. Then went to Cape May where we stayed with his family. An absolute blast. At one point it was 9pm at night, and myself, Johnny, and his parents were on the couch watching Miracle on 34th Street....you know....on March 29th. Loved it.
Anyways, I went to the race the next morning. Late start (9am), which is unusual. It was cold, drizzling, and very foggy.
First 13 miles went fine. I was in no hurry, just crusing along, but then I ran into a big problem. It was now raining, in the 30s (degrees), my shirt was soaking wet, and the short sleeve shirt was soaking wet too. I was screwed. Needless to say, I was not going to do the second half of the marathon like this. There was an aid station at mile 14. I jumped in the ambulance. I was asked if I needed medical attention, to which I replied "I just need a blanket." Other runners were doing the same. Anyway, they took us to the finish. I had called Johnny and had him pick me up there, and we were on our way home (stopping of course for a cheese steak).
OK, so I didn't finish the full, but I still did half. Not too shabby. I'll take it. Next year, hopefully we will have better weather.
