Healthy Kids Running Series - Season 3 for the Bugey Boys, Week #2 (of 5)

Healthy Kids Running Series -
Rustin High School
West Chester, PA

Race #2 (of 5)

Chris had a bit of a cough today, so I wasn't expecting a good race.  He finished 4th today.  He had a strong start again, but ran out of gas about 2/3 into the race.  He was still happy to get his post race apple.

And over to the 1/2 mile race.  Another race, another smiling Bugey boy runner.  Once again, Nathan did fantastic, and was grinning ear to ear.

Healthy Kids Running Series - Season 3 for the Bugey Boys, Week #1 (of 5)

Healthy Kids Running Series -
Rustin High School
West Chester, PA

Race #1 (of 5)

After my mud run this morning, now its time for the boys to do their run this afternoon.

We are back for our third installment of the Healthy Kids Running Series at Rustin High School.  This is a 5 week series that is held twice a year (spring and fall).  Chris is running the 1/4 mile race for K and 1st graders.  Nathan is running the 1/2 mile race for 2nd and 3rd graders.  This is the first time the boys aren't running together in the same race.

Start of Season 3, Race #1

First up is Christopher.  He had the lead in his race 10 yards in.  His mother and I said to each other "Uh-oh.  This isn't good.  He is going to run out of gas before he gets to the top of the hill."  He sure did slow down as he was going up the hill, but nobody was gaining ground on him.  He and another boy were up in the front and nobody else was close.  As they started coming down the hill, the two of them really separated themselves from everyone else.  They were a lock for 1st and 2nd, just didn't know which one Chris was going to finish in.  Sure enough, he ended up winning, and I was stunned.  He started out so fast that I thought there was no way he was going to win this race.  The good thing was that he was tired when he finished, so he didn't have any snarky comments about winning (he is a sore loser as is, but an even bigger sore winner).  I was very proud of his effort and his gracious attitude when it was over.  A huge step for Chris and his good manners.

Next up was Nathan.  I was worried about him, because he was going to be running with kids older than him, and he had never ran a half mile race before.  I was so proud of him, because he ran up to me after Chris finished and shouted at me, "Chris won!  Chris won!  Did you see, Dad?  Chris won!"  As I say all the time, he is my pride.

Nathan never once stopped to walk, and had a smile on his face the whole time he ran.  Every time he ran by us, he waved (cause thats what us Bugeys do).

What a fantastic day of running.

Delaware Mud Run

TTL Mudmen

Middletown, DE

So the Bugey boys hopped in Megan's minivan with Megan and Mackenzie and headed down to Middleton, DE for the Delaware Mud Run.  Another run with my running bros Jared and John.  This time, we actually had a sponsor.  Jared's father Mike sponsored two teams of four runners each.  The name of his company is Trial Tansport Logistics (TTL).  We are the TTL Mudmen.  There is the fast team and the slow team

fast team:
Brian
Rich
Mike
Aaron (Jared's son)

slow team
me
John
Jared
Mike (Schierbaum).

The slow team started at 10:20, while the fast team started the next heat at 10:40.  We all finished at the same time about an hour later.  We had Megan, Mackenzie, Trish, and Patty Schierbaum to watch the three kids (Bugey boys and Sierra), and then we all hung out for some burgers and dogs after the race.  This was such a great event, and I can't wait to do it again next year.  Below is a slideshow that shows just how much fun we all had.
